Want to make a good living in Phoenix? Consider health care.
That’s the overwhelming takeaway from looking at the 30 highest-paid positions in metro Phoenix, according to 2017 data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The vast majority are in the healthcare field, ranging from nurse practitioners and dentists to optometrists and pharmacists, all earn annual salaries north of $100,000. Besides health care, engineers of various specialties make good livings around the Valley.

That’s a decent take considering the region’s average annual salary is $49,500, according to BLS data.
Of the highest-paying positions, three professions pay more than $200,000 a year. They’re good gigs if you can get them as the number of jobs are limited for those top jobs. For instance, the market has fewer than 700 psychiatrists, which is the highest-paying job.
Of course, with the exception of general and operations managers — of which there are over 37,000 in the market — all the highest-paying jobs all have fewer than 10,000 positions in Phoenix.
